In commemoration of Athens Bancshares Corporation’s five-year anniversary on NASDAQ, the bank was featured on the Nasdaq tower in Times Square yesterday. Athens Bancshares is the holding company for Athens Federal Community Bank.
In 2009, depositors of Athens Federal Community Bank unanimously adopted a plan of conversion from a mutual form to a stock savings bank that would result in all Athens Federal’s capital stock being owned by Athens Bancshares Corporation. Athens Bancshares Corporation offered 100% of its common stock to qualifying depositors of Athens Federal Community Bank in subscription offering, and to members of the general public through a community offering and syndicate of registered broker/dealers. The plan of conversion and stock offering also provided for the establishment of the Athens Federal Foundation, which has granted nearly $300,000 to non-profit and charitable organizations in McMinn, Bradley and Monroe counties since 2009.
According to Athens Federal President and CEO Jeff Cunningham, “this anniversary marks an important milestone in Athens Federal’s history. On behalf of our directors, officers and staff, we are sincerely grateful to our stockholders, customers, friends and neighbors for supporting our mission and vision – we certainly look forward to celebrating many more achievements as Athens Federal continues to grow and prosper.”
