Personal Banking Overdraft Services

Everyone has a rainy day. We can cover you.

We know it can sometimes be challenging to stay on top of your bills, payments, and spending. There may be a time when there isn’t enough in your account to cover a transaction, and overdrafts and their associated fees are charged to your account. Athens Federal offers a variety of products and services that can help protect you from overdrafts and give you the peace of mind that comes with knowing you’re covered.

At Athens Federal’s discretion, we may authorize and pay overdrafts for the following types of transactions:

Checks and other transactions made using your checking account number
Automatic bill payments

Athens Federal does not authorize and pay overdrafts for the following types of transactions unless you ask us to via Transfer from Another Account, DDA Line of Credit, or Overdraft Protection:

ATM transactions
Everyday debit card transactions (e.g., gas or groceries)

We pay overdrafts at our discretion, which means we do not guarantee that we will always authorize and pay every type of transaction. When an overdraft is paid, standard overdraft fees may be assessed.

Your Options

Overdraft Transfer from Another Account (Checking or Savings)
Use your Athens Federal savings account as a backup to your checking account. This option can provide overdraft protection when you need it, without requiring credit approval. Your savings account can be directly linked to your checking account to automatically transfer funds when needed. Transfers are made in increments of $50 ($10 per transfer fee is assessed to the checking account).

DDA Line of Credit
With an Athens Federal DDA Line of Credit tied to your checking account, you no longer have to worry about overdrafts during unexpected financial emergencies. DDA Line of Credit is an overdraft line of credit, which means you have a pre-approved personal, unsecured loan to cover unanticipated costs that overdraw your checking account (up to your pre-approved credit limit). When you make a transaction for an amount exceeding the balance in your checking account, an advance is added to your checking account to cover the transaction, up to your pre-approved credit limit. Contact your customer service representative at 1-800-526-3572 for additional information. Subject to credit approval.
